Holocene Hydroclimate of Western North America

This project is the study of past climate and environmental change from lake sediment climate-proxies to document variability and spatial patterns and more fully understand past, ongoing and future climate change and its impacts. The focus is on hydroclimate and the Holocene time period of the past 10,000 years to present. Areas of study are in western North America, including Alaska, with a focus on the Upper Colorado River and Yukon River Basins. Several climate-proxy methods are utilized with an emphasis on oxygen isotope geochemistry to develop a network of hydroclimatic records with decade-to-century scale temporal resolution, including proxy-calibration efforts. Emphasis is on developing a longer, more complete hydroclimatic framework for understanding natural climatic variation to better assess trends observed over the past 50 to 100 years.
